Good news if you use WhatsApp: you will soon be able to edit a message after sending it, to correct or improve it. A long-awaited function, which is likely to change many conversations…

Do you tend to send your messages a little too quickly in WhatsApp? So rejoice: you will soon be able to edit them after submitting them, to correct or improve them, thanks to a new edit button. A more than welcome option, which is part of a policy of continuous – and even intensive – improvement of the application. Indeed, the Meta group, which owns WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, recently announced new functions, such as the possibility of creating polls in a group of friends, the sharing of large files – up to 2 GB – in conversations or even the WhatsApp Premium formula. Since May 2022, we can also react to a message with a smiley, to avoid a long speech, an option that has been present for a while on Facebook Messenger. The ability to correct a message after it has been sent is a widespread and essential feature that many apps have, such as Discord, Skype, Slack and Telegram. Even Twitter integrated it last April!

WhatsApp users have been asking for this option for many years, which allows them to correct a typo, a spelling mistake, a bad turn of phrase or an unfortunate word. For the time being, in the event of an error or remorse, all you have to do is delete the message sent and send a new, corrected, amended or improved one.

Message correction in WhatsApp: a function under test

Fortunately, it seems that this problem will soon be fixed. Indeed, as revealed WABetaInfo, the Meta Group is currently working on adding a button that would allow WhatsApp users to be able to edit a message after it has been sent. But how to edit a message? According to the beta – the test version that is currently circulating – it suffices to remain pressed for a few moments on the message to be corrected for a drop-down menu to appear. All you have to do is click on Edit to then modify the message before resending it.

There should normally be no change history, but the group may change their plans until this option is released to the public. It is also unknown if there will be a delay to correct his messages. The button should be available on all platforms (namely iOS, Android or Web, in a browser), although the date of the update has not yet been revealed. Even if this is rather encouraging information, we must nevertheless wait for confirmation from the group to be sure that this function will reach the general public. Indeed, in 2017, i.e. already five years ago, a beta version already hosted the option, but, for unknown reasons, it never made it into a public release.
