Good news for those who are used to ordering an Uber for their loved ones! The platform is launching a new feature called Guest Rider, allowing you to order and pay for someone else in seconds. Convenient !
Sometimes it is necessary to give a little help to loved ones when they have to be accompanied home by a VTC. It could be a family member who hasn’t downloaded an app, a friend who has had a little too much to drink and is in no condition to get home on his own, a co-worker who can’t update your means of payment, or quite simply someone to whom you want to pay for the trip. But now, it was not very practical until now, since you had to wait for the other person to arrive before ordering your own Uber, and misunderstandings could take place with the driver – who therefore had no visibility on who he had to carry. Fortunately, a much-requested new feature is coming to the platform: Guest Rider! Thanks to it, you can order a race for another person, even if this person is not registered on the platform.
Guest Rider: how to order and pay an Uber for another person?
Thanks to an update on February 15, you can order and pay for a ride for another person from the Uber app using the Guest Rider function. Here are the steps to follow :
► Open your Uber app.
► On the homepage, tap the search field Where are you going ?
► Page Plan your race opens, which asks you to enter your departure point and your arrival address.
► At the very top you have a tab For me. Press it to access the window Change passenger.
► Select Change passenger then press the black button OK.
► A window Choose a passenger appears. In the search field, enter the name of a contact from your phonebook and select it. Press the black button Following.
► You then have the option of changing the surname, first name and telephone number which will be transmitted to the driver – this avoids asking him to come and get “Dad” or “My darling”. Press the black button Add a passenger.
► You are back on the window Change passenger. This time, the name of the contact you just added is selected. Press the black button OK.
► You return to route planning. Enter the departure and arrival addresses in the corresponding fields.
► A new page opens. As for a usual command, select the type of vehicle and press Pay X to confirm your order.
Once you’ve placed the order, the person you’re ordering an Uber for receives an SMS with the driver’s name, vehicle times, license plate number, and contact information so they can locate the right driver. They will be able, if necessary, to communicate together by SMS or by telephone without you having to act as an intermediary via your account. Of course, Uber is committed to preserving the anonymity of the person’s contact details, which the driver will not be able to consult. Once the person is on their way to their destination, you can follow the course of the trip in real time – so you don’t have to worry if, for example, the driver accompanies someone who is not feeling well or your child. Finally, payment is made as for a traditional order.
