Golf: Stark and Nordqvist in the lead in the major

Stark holed out two shots under par after an overall solid first round at the Chevron Championship at The Woodlands outside Houston, Texas.

After four birdies in the first nine holes, two bogeys on the way in and she dropped back in the leaderboard. On the last hole, she was extremely close to making a birdie, but the ball stopped just under a decimeter from the hole.

Lauren Coughlin’s putting impressed.

– It’s something I’ve worked on for a long time, finding the right putter. I borrowed my husband’s putter and it felt good so I started playing with it, she says.

Anna Nordqvist is also in a good position to continue. The 2021 British Open winner came on strong in the final holes, and, like Maja Stark, cleared the course north of Houston in two under par, 70 strokes.

They are tied for ninth place.

Linn Grant and Pernilla Lindberg had significantly more difficult opening rounds. With three shots over par and rounds of 75, both are well behind the field.

Madelene Sagström and Linnéa Ström are out on the track.
