Glenn Strömberg is undoubtedly one of Sweden’s most successful football players. He celebrated great triumphs with his IFK Gothenburg in the 80s, and would then get icon status in Italian Atalanta.
The magical debut
He was a great talent during his young years, and quickly joined IFK Gothenburg’s senior team. Already as a 19-year-old he made his debut for the club under the leadership of Sven-Göran Eriksson, and he really showed himself immediately.
It was against Kalmar FF in the 1979 season that Glenn Strömberg stepped out on the football field as a senior for the very first time. And it was a debut that the icon would soon forget.
Not only did IFK Gothenburg win the match with a convincing 4-1 – Glenn Strömberg put the nail in the coffin and answered for an incredibly delicious football goal.

A 19-year-old Glenn Strömberg did not apologize for making his debut. Instead, he broke through Kalmar’s defensive lines, wall-played with Torbjörn Nilsson and distinctly put the ball in goal.
Talk about a real dream goal in his very first match – and gave “Svennis” really a good reason to play him the next match again.
