Gladiator star must exorcise demons in first horror movie trailer

How many demon exorcisms does an exorcist perform in their lifetime? Ten? 50? Or more? The official exorcist Gabriele Amorth has in his own words performed over 160,000 exorcisms (via Huffington Post). Gladiator star is now said to embody the real role model in the horror film The Pope’s Exorcist. The trailer already puts him in front of his toughest test.

Gladiator star Russell Crowe battles ancient horror demon

In The Pope’s Exorcist, veteran Amorth (Crowe) is called to his toughest case yet. He finds out that his opponent is a ancient demon that is not the first time the Church is fighting. And he seems to have only a small part to play in this fight.

Director Julius Avery (Operation: Overlord) is known, among other things, for his atmospheric staging. In front of the camera crowds of stars cavort next to Crowe, from Game of Thrones veteran Ralph Ineson to western legend and John Wick 2 actor Franco Nero.

When is The Pope’s Exorcist in cinemas?

Whether the talent in front of and behind the camera lives up to its promises remains to be seen. The Pope’s Exorcist is due out on… April 6, 2023 come to the cinema. In the USA, the film received an R rating (all viewers under the age of 17 are only allowed to see the film with adult supervision).
