Gigantic monster threatens humanity

What do a talking chair, the most dangerous cat in the world and a huge energy worm that causes earthquakes everywhere have in common? They are all important parts of Suzume’s completely unique story. The beautiful and extremely emotional new fantasy animated film from Makoto Shinkai (Your Name, Weathering with You) is finally available on streaming service Crunchyroll.

In the fantasy masterpiece Suzume, a girl wants to save the world from a giant worm

Suzume is about a 17-year-old girl of the same name (German voice: Emilia Raschewski) who meets the mysterious Sōta (Oscar Räuker) on the way to school. As he finally reveals to her, he has to close various doors to the afterlife, through which a gigantic, worm-like monster comes into our world and could destroy the earth.

It’s just stupid that a talking cat (Cathlen Gawlich) Sōta transformed into a chair. From then on, Suzume makes it her mission to travel after the cheeky beast together with her beloved stool and to prevent the giant worm’s attacks.

What sounds completely bizarre actually works really well. The story of Suzume offers Visually powerful fantasy, sparkling with 1000 ideas and an incredible amount of human warmth. The film received rave reviews (via Metacritic) and grossed hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide (via The Numbers).

Moviepilot editor Jenny Jecke wrote about Suzume at the Berlinale:

[…] make an impression inconspicuous, warm images, which accompany Suzume’s journey. Drunk older people grinning at each other over sake and music. Curious, beaming toddlers discovering that the chair in their midst can talk. A young, incredibly beautiful man on a summer day. She needs to be saved in Suzume.

It’s not just genre fans who will be happy that the film can now also be streamed in this country.
