Giant slap for Tomas Brolin – the football icon is sentenced to multi-million fines after cheating: “Very surprised”

Thomas Brolin has suffered a financial shock.
The football icon is now sentenced to a whopping six million kroner in fines.
– I am very surprised, he tells Sportbladet.

In the 90s was Thomas Brolin one of Sweden’s and the world’s best soccer players. He was one of the heroes during the magical summer of feats in 1994 when Sweden salvaged a scrappy World Cup bronze in the football World Cup.

Brolin’s career

Brolin’s fantastic performance in that tournament was also rewarded with a place in the host team for the WC. After his playing career ended at a much too young age due to injury problems, the footballer ventured into a completely new industry.

But now the Swedish Tax Agency has acted and investigated Tomas Brolin for income during the years 2014-2018.
– We thought it contradicted the purpose of the legislation and submitted a petition for application of the Tax Evasion Act. The Administrative Court shares our view and determines that Brolin’s income from service must be increased by SEK 11,933,683 and income from capital by SEK 373,542 for the years 2014 to 2018, says the Tax Agency’s process manager Markus Pettersson to Sportbladet.

Tomas’ own words

Which now means a huge blow for the VM 94 hero after the Administrative Court in Uppsala has now sentenced Brolin for tax evasion. This means that the 53-year-old suffers a severe financial blow and is forced to pay back a full six million kroner in extra tax.

The administrative court considers that Brolin acted as an indirect owner and is now forced to pay unpaid tax on the income. Tomas himself believes that the advertising posts on social media have not been made by him personally, but by people the company has hired.

Now Tomas Brolin has two months to appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeal, which he will also do.
– I can’t say much, but we will appeal this. I didn’t really believe in this outcome, he says to the evening newspaper.
– I am very surprised.
