Gafam: the explosion of the mixed reality market

Gafam the explosion of the mixed reality market

The major annual conference of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s group, put the spotlight on mixed reality on Wednesday September 27 by presenting the Meta Quest 3, a headset costing less than 570 euros intended for the general public.

A response from one Gafam to another. Last June, the Apple company unveiled the Apple Vision Pro, its high-end mixed reality headset at around $3,500.

Mixed reality consists of a mixture between virtual reality and augmented reality, with a display of virtual elements in the real world. To put it simply, mixed reality headsets, real “spatial computers”, to use the expression favored by Apple, offer the possibility of filming reality in 3D and adding virtual elements, such as a TV screen.

In 2023, the virtual reality market is expected to reach $41.22 billion globally. That’s about twice as much as in 2021, and the sector has the potential to reach $100 billion by 2026.
