Furuviksparken’s CEO: “They have been through an incredibly traumatic experience”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Four chimpanzees were shot to death in connection with the escape from the enclosure at Furuviksparken and one more has been injured. During Saturday, the zoo managed to get the chimpanzees that were loose in the monkey house into a safe enclosure and the situation is now under control.

The focus is on taking care of the three chimpanzees that survived. In a press release from Furuviksparken, the monkeys’ health status is stated to be stable.

“They eat, drink and move around the enclosure. However, they have all been chilled, had limited access to food for two days and have been through an incredibly traumatic experience,” writes the park.

Treated for cold

The chimpanzees are treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs because they have caught a cold and to avoid respiratory infections. The chimpanzee Selma, who was previously stated to be seriously injured, is judged to have milder injuries than previously feared.

“Right now, our full focus is on continuing to care for the chimpanzees to ensure their health and well-being.”

Djuparken also writes that an independent investigation must be carried out to bring clarity to the issues surrounding the incident.
