Frida Karlsson has left the national team and will train on their own.
The star believes that the decision had nothing to do with money.
– It’s bullshit, she says.
Frida Karlsson is one of the world’s absolute best cross-country skiers. The Swede is only 22 years old, but she already has several World Cup victories and many heavy championship medals on her track record.
Left the national team
Last season, on the other hand, was not a success for Frida, who had a very difficult period after the turn of the year. She came to the Olympics in Beijing as one of Sweden’s absolute greatest hopes for gold, but she did not have much to live up to and had to withdraw from the final competition of the championship due to health problems.
A couple of months ago, she chose, together with close friend Maja Dahlqvist, to drop out of the national team’s training group. Instead, the Swede will pursue a venture of his own. A decision that really struck like a bolt from the blue.
Afterwards, Frida Karlsson was accused that the decision was based on money – and that she would bring in more money from training herself. Something she now fights back against.
“It’s bullshit”
– It’s bullshit. This has made no difference to me financially, says Frida Karlsson to Expressen.
The news also spread widely in Norway. Several Norwegian cross-country skiers also speculated that the decision was financially favorable for Karlsson – a move that she took part in.
– Yes, I read that. And it could be interpreted that way in the first press release, but as I said, it is not true. It has in no way changed anything with my sponsors, she says.
