But she has kept a nickname secret.
– I have been called that since I was 7-8 years old, she says.
Frida Karlsson is not only one of our greatest athletes – she is undoubtedly one of our most popular. When, as a teenager, she made her very first WC and broke through with a bang and won several medals, she immediately fell in love with people, and that hasn’t changed since.
Reveals the nickname
Frida Karlsson comes from a winter filled with disappointment. Her first Olympics ended mostly with tears and collapses at the finish line, but now she’s coming off a strong summer of training, with hopes for a season filled with success. She has left the national team to train on her own, and with her own investment. And the methods, well, they can be different.
There are pictures of Karlsson from a training session in Idre, where she rides with a rope around her waist. Behind her, holding the rope, is trainer Johan Granath. Karlsson herself says that she looks like a “draught dog”. And with that, Karlsson also takes the opportunity to reveal her nickname, which she has had since an early age. She says she resembles a scavenger, a type of hunting dog.

“Since I was 7-8 years old”
And that’s how the nickname came about.
– That has been my nickname since I was 7-8 years old. Since then, I’ve been a “duster”. It’s like just pressing a button on the back of my neck when I’m going to compete – and I’m off, she says, and continues:
– And then there is one more thing. You have seen that I usually stick my tongue out when I compete? Then you understand.
Back to the workout with the rope around your waist. Frida Karlsson believes that it is good exercise, and above all heavier than what she is used to.
– This was the first time for me. But it’s good to be able to try to keep the technique together even when riding with a lot of resistance, says Frida Karlsson.
