SVT has sent an email to every municipality in Västerbotten – here are the answers from those who answered:
Donkey
We have a welcome bag for new arrivals, in that bag are local businesses that offer a discount in their shops/businesses. Åsele Municipality offers a free swim at the swimming pool and a free visit to the cinema.
On National Day, we have a ceremony where newborns receive a gift, a necklace in genuine silver with the Sami magic drum.
Friends
All new movers receive a move-in letter with, among other things, a gift card in the local trade, information from the municipality and a welcome greeting.
Bjurholm
In addition to some information material about the municipality and a welcome letter and a butter knife with the municipality logo, all new movers receive a coupon sheet with various offers/discounts around some companies in Bjurholm.
Lucky harness
Does not give gifts to new movers or newborns at this time.
Sorsele
No gifts for new arrivals. Newborns should receive a gift on National Day.
Malo
Nothing special for new arrivals. Newborn children receive a gift, e.g. a reindeer horn lucky bone (necklace) and a diploma during a ceremony on National Day.
Robertsfors
No gift for new movers, newborns will receive the book Newborn that the library gives.
Umeå
No gifts.
Skellefteå
Skellefteå gives new residents a welcome box – see in the video above.
Newborns receive a card at BB or at the adoption center stating “Now begins a new saga”. The gift is a locally produced candle. This is a result of a political motion since 2017.
