“I worked at the hospital for 18 years, so I’ve been supporting the foundation’s 50/50 since the beginning, but I never actually thought I would win,” said the Erieau resident in a media release. “This is an amazing Christmas surprise and I think I might spoil some of my loved ones a little more this year.”

She also plans to use some of the money for a trip to Portugal next year with her husband, Leo.

Heuvelmans purchased her winning ticket – CK-7813872 – online on Nov. 29.

She has supported the summer edition of the lottery since it began in 2019.

The holiday edition of the fundraiser, which reached ticket sales of $119,090, has pushed the grand total to more than $1.5 million with half the funds paid out to winners and the other half used to purchase life-saving equipment for the CKHA, said the foundation .

“With the success that this fundraiser has during the summer, we knew that our community would step up and support this holiday 50/50, and we were not disappointed,” said Christine Mitchell, CKHAF president and CEO.

She added the draws give the foundation a chance to give back to the “amazing community members who support us year in and year out.

Proceeds from the latest 50/50 will support areas of greatest need at CKHA’s Chatham and Wallaceburg sites, the foundation said.

“The funds that we’ve raised together over the past four weeks will have a real, meaningful impact on healthcare in Chatham-Kent for years to come, so we’re all big winners at the end of the day,” Mitchell said.
