Former Czech Prime Minister Babis acquitted in corruption case

The court gave its verdict in the corruption case of Czechia’s former Prime Minister Andrej Babis. Babis was cleared of charges that he used 2 million euros from European Union (EU) funds for his company in the case in the capital Prague.

HE DID NOT AGREE TO THE CHARGES

It was stated in the case file that after transferring one of the companies belonging to the holding, founded by Babis, to his children and partner, about 15 years ago, he received an aid fund of 2 million euros from the EU and transferred this company back to the holding. The prosecutor’s office demanded that Babis, who was accused of fraudulent transfer, be sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of approximately 415,000 euros. Babis, on the other hand, did not accept the charges against him.

“I’M VERY GRATEFUL THAT THE COURT VERIFYED WHAT I SAID”

In the case, which was held today, the court ruled that the activity mentioned in the indictment was not a crime. It is not yet known whether the prosecutor will appeal.

Welcoming the court’s decision with joy, Babis said, “I am very glad that we have an independent judiciary and that the court has confirmed what I have been saying from the beginning.”

AMONG THE CANDIDATES IN THE ELECTIONS

On the other hand, Andrej Babis is among the candidates in the presidential elections to be held on 13-14 January. In the event that no candidate receives a quorum in the elections, the second round will be held on 27-28 January. (UAV)
