It has almost been a year since Fridolina Rolfö decided the Champions League final against Wolfsburg and won her first CL title after several final losses.
What was known at the time was that the Swedish star had been pulled with an injury that stopped her from playing for several weeks until the final. But it was not communicated how bad it was.
“Took a huge risk”
– When the club said that I would rest before the final, I understood that we took a huge risk by me playing. It was possible to play and I was happy that the knee felt so good. Thank God for adrenaline and that the body doesn’t feel so much when it’s pumping, says Fridolina Rolfö to SVT Sport.
Was it a conscious risk you took?
– Yes absolutely. I felt that this is one of the biggest chances in life and I have dreamed of winning the Champions League. I knew I was taking a risk, but it was one hundred percent worth it. Of course, I could have risked a WC and that was my biggest worry – at the same time I knew it was possible to run and play even though I was injured and limited.
“A bit like Hecken”
This season, Barcelona has made it all the way to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Rolfö has watched from the sidelines as she underwent surgery for her knee injury after the World Cup. Against Norwegian Brann, the Swede can make his CL comeback.
– It is an exciting team that, like Häcken, has surprised and done well. They have performed against Lyon and got good results – they are not an easy team. We have to be 100 percent to win.
