Food prices have risen the least here

2023 has been a financially strained year for many; increased interest rates, increased electricity prices and food prices that never seem to stop rising. Above all, it is the food in the grocery stores that has increased, which means that the food in one’s own kitchen has become more expensive.

At the same time, many restaurants manage to keep prices down. It was Gefle Daily first to report on. Food from stores such as Ica, Coop and Hemköp have risen by a whopping 26 percent, while the restaurant food that has increased the most in price, i.e. today’s lunch, has only risen 18 percent.

Biggest difference between coffee prices

Coffee stands out as an example of this. At the same time as the price of coffee in restaurants has increased by 8 percent, the price of coffee in grocery stores has increased by 40.2 percent, according to figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB).

“Space to Bargain”

– We are close to our suppliers and have more room to bargain on the goods, says Mohammed Anadol, who works at Järnvägskrogen in Gävle, to Gefle Dagblad.

Dinner restaurants such as Järnvägskrogen have increased their prices by 12.9 percent, which is the smallest price increase among restaurants, according to Statistics Sweden.
