Floodplains will be underwater from tomorrow, water boards speak of a challenge

Water boards take measures against high water during public holidays

The water boards speak of a challenge, because the soil is saturated due to the heavy rainfall: “The sponge has been completely sucked in.” Water that falls normally flows into the rivers, but “they are now completely full”. In many places, rivers have already burst their banks and floodplains have been flooded. The water boards therefore warn people not to use empty cycle paths, because this is “just plain”. Parking your car on a water-saturated dike is also not a good idea, because damage can occur.
