Barbie is finally here! Since 2009, Hollywood has been trying to put together a major live-action film based around the toy figure. The most recent attempt was directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) and celebrated its premiere in Los Angeles a few hours ago. But how good did the Barbie film become?

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have already captured the hearts of the internet as Barbie and Ken. Also from the premiere there much love for the stars of every imaginable shade of pink blockbuster, which could even top the launch weekend of Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One with Tom Cruise, as Boxoffice writes. The hype surrounding Barbie is growing day by day.

ScreenRant’s Joseph Deckelmeier is absolutely smitten with Barbie. Alongside Robbie and Gosling, she highlighted the performance of Shang Chi star Simu Liu and called the film a home run for Gerwig.

Barbie surprised me and I mean that in the best possible way. [Der Film] is funny, bombastic and very smart.

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff is also very impressed with the film, especially in terms of its design. The Barbie world comes to life before our eyes. Nevertheless, there is criticism.

As for the story, there I’m a bit split. I think the film fits Margot Robbie’s Barbie and her journey particularly well, but there are other characters that have important storylines that would have needed a lot more time to really delve into.

For Comic Book’s Jamie Jirak, on the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with Barbie, quite the opposite. The film even exceeded their expectations.

I can’t officially leave Twitter without telling you all that Barbie is my favorite movie of the year right now. Greta Gerwig actually exceeded my expectations. She walks so wonderfully positive and negative aspects of Barbie a. Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I’m dead serious!

It looks like we can look forward to an entertaining summer blockbuster that will delight you with its detailed world and lots of stars. Also, Barbie definitely doesn’t appear to be a feature-length Mattel commercial, but instead adept at handling Barbie’s brand and pop-culture legacy.

When will the Barbie movie with Margot Robbie be in cinemas?

We don’t have to wait much longer. Barbie is officially coming July 20, 2023 in German cinemas and delivers a duel with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer right at the start. Based on the latest predictions, Barbie should emerge from this duel as the box office winner. And who knows, it might even eclipse the seventh Mission: Impossible movie starring Tom Cruise.
