Alcohol has been a common intoxicant in the Russian army, but during the war in Ukraine it has become more common for soldiers to be intoxicated while on duty.

That’s according to an audit by Vjorstka, an independent news site run by independent Russian journalists in exile.

– It is clear that we are only seeing the tip of an iceberg. Russia is suffering heavy losses in Ukraine and it is not possible to put everyone as super in jail. Who would then go to war?, says journalist Darja Kutjerenko.
