Fifa’s money rain: 2 billion in WC compensation

It is not always that the big club teams are so eager to let their players go on national team assignments. For the major championships, the clubs have therefore been compensated since 2010 by the International Football Association Fifa.

After the WC in Russia 2018, Manchester City received 5 million dollars, equivalent to 52 million kroner in compensation – the most of all.

And even after the winter championship, City tops the list. Then they had to make do with approximately SEK 48 million.

The Manchester club had the most players who went far in the tournament. Second on the list was Barcelona, followed by Bayern Munich.

For the World Cup in Qatar, the disgruntled voices from the club side were even louder as, for reasons of unusualness, it was played in the middle of the season.

Despite that, the total compensation pot of just over SEK 2 billion was unchanged from the WC in Russia.

For the upcoming men’s world championship, it will be increased to the equivalent of SEK 3.7 billion, when the tournament is expanded from 32 to 48 teams.
