The criminologist Leif GW Persson can be seen every now and then on TV4, not least in “Nyhetsmorgon” where he is a standing guest and comments on current crimes and court cases.
Now the 78-year-old is current with a new program: “Leif GW and the wolf”.
“Swedish wolf debate is characterized by historical controversy. GW explores the conflict, where some defend the wolf’s rights while others see it as a pest,” writes TV4 about the series, which premiered on Sunday, November 19.

And that the wolf debate arouses emotions is clear to say the least on TV4’s official Facebook page. In the comment section under a video clip from “Leif GW and the wolf” over 230 comments have been rattled in and the discussion is fierce to say the least.
“HUUUR, can you make such a one-sided program as letting a gentleman from the older generation speak with his prejudices! The Swedish media is in the lap of the hunting mafia. Make a program about the culture of silence within the hunting corps and about how wolves disappear without a trace and above all what is the use the wolf does!”, writes for example one person, who receives both support and rebuttal:
“Can only agree with you! And it’s a majority of the wolf-hating hunter corps that feel the most threatened. Have moved as much as I can in wolf territory with no problems whatsoever.”
“As a hunter and one who lives with the wolf in my life, I think GW is a bit too kind when he describes the situation. You as a wolf hugger should probably be happy about the first episode as it does not reflect the everyday life many of us live with.”
“For those of us who have to bear the negative consequences of an excessively large wolf tribe, it is difficult to understand that those who have no consequences have no understanding that our way of life is being destroyed.”

Others question Leif GW Persson’s role in the program.
“What competence does GW have on the wolf?? A person who surrounds himself with trophies. He makes claims like there are thousands of wolves in the country, claims that the wolf is dangerous to humans, that 17% of the wolves are shot during license hunting. All false . The media only highlights people who demonize the wolf! When will biologists, ecologists, ethologists and experts be allowed to speak!!! Never a word that the wolf is a prerequisite for ecological balance and one of the key species for biodiversity! Hunters and their hunting companions always get space on TV4. You lack objectivity!”

So far, TV4 has not joined the discussion, but it seems to be moderated in the comments section – something that viewers have also noticed.
“How can 199 comments out of 199 be deleted???????”, one person writes, receiving the following response from another:
“Because you can’t handle facebook is the simple answer.”
