What is the origin of Fibromyalgia Day?

May 12 is a symbolic date that was not chosen at random to “celebrate” fibromyalgia. This is the birthday of Florence Nightingalea nurse born in 1820 in Great Britain who, despite her severe form of fibromyalgia (she spent the last 50 years of her life bedridden), created the Foundation of the International Red Cross as well as the first school of nurses.

Despite notable advances in the diagnosis, recognition and management of the disease, fibromyalgia remains relatively unknown. Saturday May 6: The association “My fibromyalgia in everyday life in France” is organizing a solidarity march for the first time in Dinard.

Saturday May 13 at 3 p.m.: organization of a videoconference webinar by FibromyalgieSOS, with doctors as guests. The theme of the conference is: “Fibromyalgia is not a fatality: the means to get out of it and not to relapse”

► May 10, 12 and 13, 2023: organization of 3 days of solidarity by the Fibromyalgie Vendée association. THE Wednesday May 10: a conference on self-reflexology, led by Madisson Favreau, reflexologist in Fontenay-le-Comte, is proposed. Meet at 6 p.m. at the ODDAS social center in La Roche-sur-Yon. The conference is free and open to all. Friday May 12 with a bike relay departing from Chantonnay for an arrival at Les Herbiers, between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Free and open to all. Saturday, May 13 in La Roche-sur-Yon: bike-smoothie stand in Place Napoléon to chat with the public from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., then walking, board games, dance show and concert at the Saint-André neighborhood center. d’Ornay, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
