In Eskilstuna, the newly started companies decreased by 11 percent, and in Nyköping the corresponding figures for January showed a decrease of almost 6 percent. At the same time, Urban Wallin, director of operations for Nyföretagarcentrum in Eskilstuna, is not too worried about the downward trend.

Compared to the rest of the country, where the number of start-ups fell by an average of 4.8 percent last month, the county’s results do not stand out.
– We must remember that in Sörmland we have had a large increase in new businesses in recent years. So I’m not terribly worried about it, considering the world situation and the economy. It is natural that not everyone starts when the situation is as it is, he says.
Concern about increased number of bankruptcies
What worries Urban Wallin, however, is the number of bankruptcies that were registered in January. In 2022, fewer companies went bankrupt than the previous year. But now a clear trend break is visible in the other direction.
