The sci-fi film Tides was shown in German cinemas in 2021. The COVID-19 regulations when visiting a cinema were stricter than usual, which is why many cinemagoers might have missed the film. German-language science fiction gets anyway too little attention and is often left behind by the Hollywood competition. Tim Fehlbaum directed the German-Swiss insider tip. He is best known for the 2011 sci-fi film Hell and shows us a different post-apocalypse in Tides.
Sci-Fi film new on Amazon Prime: In Tides, the earth is only entered again after 200 years
In Tides, humanity has almost completely exploited the Earth and is fleeing into space. There they live on the space colony Kepler-209. But people have become infertile due to cosmic radiation, so they come up with a plan. A team of astronauts is supposed to check whether the earth has recovered after 200 years and is habitable.

But The landing capsule of the Ulysses 2 expedition crashes. Only Louise Blake, played by Nora Arnezeder, and her colleague Tucker (Sope Dirisu) survive the crash. As they explore the planet, they experience some of the surprises that have developed over the two centuries. A difficult fight for survival begins.
The post-apocalyptic planet might look familiar
The film was shot in Germany and Switzerland. As Fehlbaum said in an interview with the industry magazine Variety, he tried Avoid scenes in front of a green screen if possible. The scenes with the Kepler community were filmed in his hometown of Basel. For the post-apocalyptic Earth, the production team was drawn to the German Wadden Sea.
Hamburg and Brandenburg were used as filming locations. So you might recognize some places from the film. The tides should be when filming caused some difficulties have. The flood came twice a day. Therefore, the team could only shoot for two to three hours at a time.
