Madelen Larsson about the pitfalls during the sports holiday

News24 have talked to Madeleine Larsson which lies behind Instagram account “The million goal”where she shares saving tips in front of thousands of followers under the motto “live more on less”.

The 32-year-old, who managed to save a million kroner before she turned 27, has two children herself and has identified a common, but expensive, mistake many people make before the sports holiday.

– Many make the mistake of not asking the children what they want to do. Instead, they guess and think that what is at the top are activities that cost money. Such as, for example, a playground, cinema or trampoline park. And then of course it will be expensive. In fact, the children’s desire may be to play video games together, go ice skating, visit grandma or do crafts for a whole morning.

“A lot influenced by norms”

But that’s not the only thing that makes the money easily run away during the sports holiday.

– A trap is also that as an adult you are greatly influenced by norms, prestige and comparing yourself. It can cause you to spend more money than you really want because you feel you should, want to live up to something and feel pressured to do like others, Madelen Larsson tells Nyheter24 and continues:

– The problematic thing in our society today is that activities that cost money are usually valued higher in the eyes of many. There is also a lot of prestige in posting what you have done on social media, and then activities that cost money. So it is a pressured society we live in where the focus is incredibly on consumption and that we should spend money. Many people think it is desirable to be able to have a lifestyle where you throw money around. But you can do many fun activities that do not cost or that cost very little.

This is how you save 100,000 in a year – without losing motivation
