Europa League: the result of the draw for the 8th

Europa League the result of the draw for the 8th

Without the French clubs, here are the posters for the knockout stages of the Europa League after the draw made on Friday February 24.

A real disaster! Thursday, February 23, the Europa League play-offs did not go as planned for French clubs with the eliminations of Nantes, Rennes and Monaco. Consequently, no French club was able to participate in the draw which took place at the Maison du football on Friday 25 February. The result of the draw:

  • Arsenal (ENG) – Sporting CP (POR)
  • Fenerbahce (TUR) – Sevilla FC (ESP)
  • Betis Sevilla (ESP) – Man United (ENG)
  • Union Saint-Gilloise (BEL) – Union Berlin (GER)
  • Real Sociedad (ESP) – Roma (ITA)
  • Feyenoord Rotterdam (PB) – Shakhtar (UKR)
  • SC Freiburg (GER) – Juventus (ITA)
  • Ferencvaros (HON) – Bayer Leverkusen (GER)

Nightmarish play-offs for French clubs

In an atmosphere of madness, the Canaries were eaten by Juventus Turin and a certain Angel Di Maria, author of a hat-trick. A bitter defeat for Antoine Kombouaré. “Juventus were superior to us, there is nothing to say about their victory. We missed our start to the match. When you are behind after 4 minutes, you can still maintain a lot of hopes. But when there is 2-0 and an expulsion after 10, it’s over… There is no disappointment, we have not lived up to the event.”

For Monaco, the pill is struggling to pass. Winner in Leverkusen in the first leg, the Monegasques lost on penalties 2-3 (3-5 TAB). A big disappointment even if Philippe Clément is “proud of his players”. For Rennes, the victory against Donetsk will have been for nothing since the Rennais lost after a rather crazy penalty shootout.

The group stage of the Europa Football League is played from Thursday September 8, 2022 to Thursday November 3, 2022 while the knockout stage will be played from Thursday February 16, 2023 to Thursday May 18, 2023.
