At an extraordinary meeting, the EU countries have agreed on a voluntary reduction in gas consumption of 15 percent in order to reduce dependence on Russian gas.
The purpose is to save for the winter to prepare for possible interruptions in gas supplies from Russia, a press release states.
The agreement follows the Commission’s proposal for a voluntary reduction in consumption. Russia announced on Monday that the state gas company Gazprom is reducing the flow via Nordstream 1 due to technical problems.
