Eskilstuna Energi og miljö sells vehicle gas at a lower price and loses millions every month

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

– It is easy to be a hindsight, but now we have an agreement which means that we lose money when it comes to biogas, says Tommy Malm.

At the end of 2019, Eskilstuna Energy and Environment signed an agreement with Transdev to supply gas to the company’s buses. In order to cope with the deliveries, Energy and Environment buys gas on the international market.

In the fall of 2021, the price of gas rose sharply, which made Energy and Environment’s purchase costs higher than the price they were paid by Transdev. Since then, the millions have rolled out of Energy and Environment every month. In 2022, the loss for the biogas operations was written at SEK 30 million.

The agreement with Transdev extends until 2030 and so far, Energy and Environment has not managed to stop the millions of losses. This has caused the parent company Eskilstuna municipal corporation to lose patience.

Will tear up the contract

In January, the municipal companies’ board decided that Tommy Malm, municipal director and CEO of Eskilstuna municipal companies, should step in to tear up the agreement.

Won’t there be a cost to get out of the contract?

– It is likely that there may be a one-off cost if we follow through and fully withdraw from the agreement, says Tommy Malm.

SVT Nyheter Sörmland has been in contact with Transdev, which has declined to comment on the agreement with Eskilstuna Energy and Environment.
