The program “It starts today” caused a lively controversy. And for good reason: according to the guest on the set, endometriosis is caused by a form of “family guilt”. Yasmine Candau, president of Endofrance, denies her words and explains the real causes.
Endometriosis is a complex inflammatory disease, which affects on average one in ten menstruating people. In addition to intense, even disabling pelvic pain, the disease can sometimes cause fertility problems. Consequences, still unknown, which are sometimes the subject of dangerous conclusions as evidenced by the extract from the program “It starts today”, broadcast on social networks.
Endometriosis, the reflection of a family “suffering”?
According to Natacha Calestrémé, personal development specialist and guest of the show, the dramas experienced by our ancestors would have an impact on our fertility.
“You inherited this grandmother or great-grandmother who had children, who lost children. Endometriosis, for all those who listen to us, is a message from our body telling us that “Before, there was enormous suffering from a person who associated the word childhood and death, and childhood and death, they don’t go together. There is guilt, there is sadness and we have to release”she says on the set of the show.
A staggering hypothesis that caused an uproar on social networks. Associations and patients with endometriosis were immediately indignant against this false discourse.
The AAERS, a collective for scientific research around Adenomyosis and Endometriosis, recalls as such in a tweet “that there is no scientific proof showing that endometriosis would have such an origin (…) This type of discourse misleads“, while the disease can be serious.
There is no scientific proof that endometriosis has such an origin.
None, while we are sorely lacking in fundamental research.
This type of talk is misleading for a physical illness that can be serious – @ItStartToday you are asked to cancel it https://t.co/AFUj5ePnyx— AAERS ~ Collective for Adeno and Endo Research (@aaers_org) May 1, 2022
In this context, the collective has requested, in the same way as other associations, the cancellation of this program.
Faced with these reactions, France 2 was forced to deprogram the show. The Miviludes (Interministerial mission of vigilance and fight against sectarian aberrations) and Arcom were also seized.
Endometriosis: what are the causes?
Vagina, ovaries, bladder, rectum… Many organs can be affected by endometriosis. The cause: the invasion of these organs by tissue from the uterine lining, the endometrium. Specifically, it develops in places where it should not (especially in the fallopian tubes) and sometimes prevents proper implantation of the embryo.
“Endometriosis can interfere with the nesting of the embryo in the uterus. Fortunately, the vast majority of women – 60 to 70% – manage to get pregnant spontaneously.reveals Yasmine Candau, President of Endofrance.
Of course, these difficulties in getting pregnant vary depending on the severity of the endometriosis. A laparoscopy is sometimes considered to eliminate the endometrium, where it invades the cavities, especially in the fallopian tubes.
