25-year-old Emma Ribom’s season last year was marred by illness.
And now that colds, and also corona, are spreading again, she has had to make a tough decision before Christmas.
– I dare not go home, says Ribom.
Emma Ribom started the season by winning for the first time in the World Cup, twice in addition. Then she got sick, and had to leave the national team and Beitostölen.
“Critical period”
Something that worried her, as last year’s season was largely characterized by illness.
– Yes, but I probably did. Mainly because I have a background from last year where I was very, very sick and sick for a very long time, so I just became a bit “well, now I’m sitting in the shit again”, says Ribom to Aftonbladet.

But after a week she was healthy again, and now she has been training since then. But despite that, the Christmas plans seem to be disrupted, precisely because of diseases that are rampant.
– I’m incredibly bored now. Christmas is always a critical period. I long to go home to my family very much, but I don’t really know if I dare to go home over Christmas. It will probably be a bit of isolation for me going forward, so we stay away from viruses and bacteria for a while, she says.

Ribom therefore risks sitting alone over Christmas, but she hopes that there can at least be some form of Christmas celebration even though she is not with her family.
– I think we should coordinate something here in Östersund. I think we’re a bunch of skiers who stay here at home, so we’ll probably have a Christmas celebration even if it’s not at home with the family this year.

There won’t be any Tour de Ski for Emma Ribom in the days between. The focus is instead on a comeback in the competition tracks during the Scandinavian Cup in Rovaniemi at the beginning of the new year.
