Elvira Öberg’s luxurious free trip: When the national team flew economy

Elvira Obergs luxurious free trip When the national team flew

The biathlon season is coming to an end, and it will end in the United States and Canada. The weekend in Soldier Hollow awaits, and then the finale in Canmore March 14-17.

To facilitate travel to the United States after the Oslo competitions, the International Biathlon Union, IBU, chartered a large plane that accommodated all of the approximately 200 active skiers.

But the journey across the Atlantic was not the same for everyone. For the riders who are at the top in the overall World Cup, a trip in business awaited, while other riders were relegated to economy.

One who got a nice trip to the USA was Elvira Öberg, which is in fifth place overall.

– I was actually upgraded because I fit well in the overall, so I got to go up front. It was a bit of a disappointment actually, it was very good to have a bigger seat so you could lie down and get a few hours of comfortable sleep. Otherwise, it was the same food service all over the plane. It was the seat that you got better, but it was very nice not to have to sit squeezed together, says Elvira Öberg The evening paper.

Sebastian Samuelsson bought a place in business with his own money

But there was a chance for an upgrade for other riders as well – but then it came at a cost.

One who paid to come well prepared for the Soldier Holden races at 1,800 meters was Sebastian Samuelsson. With money from his own, he had to spend SEK 30,000 for more comfortable seats, writes NRK.

– I actually bought a business ticket a few weeks ago. For me, it’s a bit about professionalism, he says to the television channel.

It remains to be seen if Samuelsson’s purchased luxury pays off this weekend.
