Elsie, 8, is unique.

As probably the only person in Sweden, she has received permission from the county board to have a unicorn.

– I know a little about how to take care of horses, so I think it’s quite similar, says Elsie.

On December 8, a handwritten letter arrived at the county administrative board in Jönköping.

The sender was Elsie, 8, who applied for permission for a somewhat unusual animal farm.

“I wish for a unicorn but mom and dad say we have to ask your permission,” it said.

“Please respond quickly,” she concluded the letter.

On Tuesday, the day before Lucia, the answer came. The governor granted the permit, on one condition: that Elsie take good care of the unicorns.

“If you find some or get some as a Christmas present, we would very much like to get a card on them,” writes Governor Helena Jonsson in the decision.

“Should be rainbow colored”

Elsie’s family has a horse farm and she has had her own horses for a long time. Sometimes she has equipped them with pretend horns.

But ever since she was three years old, she has wanted a real, live unicorn – preferably a foal.

– It should be rainbow colored, but a little more spotted. And it will be called Vy, says Elsie.

What do you like so much about unicorns?

– That they can conjure things with their horns. They can conjure up almost anything.

Since the family already has a horse farm, and Elsie knows a little about how to care for horses, she doesn’t think a unicorn would be much of a match.

Unicorns seem to be quite difficult to see. How do you think one should go about finding one?

– I think you should fly high above the clouds.

Mother Linda says that she and her daughter talked about the shooting stars that lit up the December sky during the night of Thursday.

– We said that the unicorns might come with a shooting star, that you can look up at the sky, says mother Linda.

“Magic Age”

Linda tells us that a unicorn has long been at the top of Elsie’s wish list.

– We are still in that magical age. And I hope she gets to stay there for a while longer.

– Now it seems that putting fake horns on a pony is no longer enough. So if anyone has contacts, please get in touch, she says and laughs.
