For the 11th weekend in a row, thousands of Israelis are demonstrating across the country to protest the hard-right government’s – led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – plans to overhaul the judiciary.

The heavily criticized bill would mean – if it becomes a reality – that the Israeli parliament will be given the power to overturn judgments from the country’s highest court.

Critics fear that the planned bill will lead to the judiciary losing its political independence and that Israeli democracy risks being replaced by an authoritarian regime

In Tel Aviv, thousands of protesters waved Israel’s blue and white Israeli flag and rainbow flags on Saturday. Roads are reported to have been blocked by protesters and several are carrying placards with the text “Save democracy”.
