Electric bike: Canyon launches the Pathlite:ON SUV, its ultimate adventurer

Electric bike Canyon launches the PathliteON SUV its ultimate adventurer

Launched in 2020, Canyon’s electric touring bike is renewed this year. The 2022 vintage is adorned with the mention SUV, as if to better underline its propensity to ignore all types of trails. The new version does not promise a fundamentally different design from the previous one, although the design of the diagonal tube has been modified to give it a more dynamic appearance. Canyon also offers two frame versions for its new bike, open or closed. The characteristic ingredients of the touring family are present, starting with the rear rack compatible with the Ortlieb 3.1 QL system, the wide tires and the imposing mudguards. Rest assured, the name SUV is not usurped.

Bosch at work

Who says touring bike also says that it must be able to go everywhere and in all weathers. The specifications therefore often begin with the autonomy line. In this regard, Canyon has opted for a block of 750 Wh (against 500 Wh previously), a substantial capacity certainly, but which is not what the manufacturer has more seriously in stock. Indeed, it is surprising to note that for his cycle touring VAE, the German did not opt for the 900 Wh battery that equips his latest Spectral: ON. The choice of Bosch undoubtedly weighed in this limitation, the large battery being for the moment the prerogative of Shimano.

For the rest, on the other hand, it is a technical sheet that is both consistent and of quality that is displayed by the Pathlithe: ON SUV. We find there, of course, the Bosch Gen 4 system, its maximum assistance of 340% and its torque of 85 Nm. The latter is assisted by the Kiox display which has the good idea of being removable. On the mechanical side, it’s also very serious, whether at the level of the fork (Suntour EVO Air 100 mm) or the Enviolo hub. Surprise on the other hand on the transmission side, Canyon having opted for a Gates belt rather than a traditional chain. The user will undoubtedly gain in maintenance comfort, but not necessarily in repairability.
