Elden Ring: release date, gameplay, trailers… We take stock

The countdown begins ! Elden Ring, the next creation from revered studio From Software will be available in less than a week. The gaming world holds its breath in anticipation of what might just be the game of the year.

With the successful releases of Pokémon Arceus, Horizon Forbidden West, Dying Light 2 and Total War Warhammer 3, Elden Ring could well be the icing on the cake of a pretty happy start to the year for the video game world, all platforms combined. The next product from From Software studios and the teams of the respected Hidetaka Miyazaki (Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro…) seems to deserve its “Most Anticipated Game of the Year” award, obtained at the Game Awards ago some months. Especially since it is the result of a close collaboration with George RR Martin, the author behind the essential Game of Thrones. Suffice to say that the excitement is at its height, less than a week before the release of Elden Ring. We explain why.

Elden Ring also received an official release date, but unfortunately it was pushed back a month. You will have to wait for the February 25, 2022 before we can get our hands on the long-awaited RPG. A decision that the From Software teams justified in the tweet below. Seasoned veterans, lovers of challenges, or intrepid neophytes can on this date embark on the Underworld, and try to defeat the descendants of Marika in order to reunite the fragments of the circle of Elden. An adventure on a path that promises to be winding and very perilous. Good news, Bandai Namco has also chosen to release Elden Ring on older generation consoles. It will therefore come out on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC thus not making anyone jealous.

It’s hard not to recognize the special touch of Hidetaka Miyazaki (no relation to Hayao Miyazaki, the founder of Ghibli studios) during these three minutes. A universe as dark as it is mysterious, an enigmatic scenario, characters and monsters with so… varied attractions. This is the work of the Japanese director, behind Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro. And this time, he was able to count on a collaboration with none other than George RR Martin, the author behind the Game of Thrones saga, to provide us with this unique experience. It will be an open world game that the player can browse at will while performing side quests and following the main plot. The game also includes multiplayer aspects, up to four players.

As for its story, Elden Ring takes place in a whole new universe, from the imagination of none other than George RR Martin. Recently interviewed by the American newspaper WWTW, the author of Game of Throne confirmed his involvement in the project throughout its many years of development. He claimed to have shaped the Elden Ring universe in great detail to provide developers with a solid foundation for their game development. Given the complexity and uniqueness of the universes George RR Martin is able to create, one can expect high-flying storytelling. If we add that to the inventiveness and the graphic quality to which the From Software teams have accustomed us, Elden Ring could very quickly earn its place alongside the excellent Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls or Sekiro.
