Aged 27, Egan Bernal revealed himself to the general public by winning Paris-Nice in 2019, the Tour de Suisse and, above all, the Tour de France, before winning another grand Tour, the Giro, in 2021 .
In January 2022, however, he was the victim of a serious accident during training in Colombia, which almost cost him his life. Returning to the pelotons last year, Bernal had a difficult season, far from his performances before his accident. However, he started 2024 much better, finishing the Tour of Catalonia in March in 3rd place in the ranking behind Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and Spaniard Mikel Landa.
Before returning to Colombia, he finished the Tour de Romandie on Sunday in 10th position.
