Education Minister Lotta Edholm (L) after SVT’s review: “Completely unacceptable”

Already in 2014, the physical education teacher was transferred from a school in Haninge municipality after an alarm from students. At the new school, it wasn’t long before a colleague witnessed the man holding a camera under a girl’s dress – and he was bought out by Haninge municipality for over half a million kroner.

Despite that, he got a job at a prestigious school in Central Sweden – which did not know about the previous events. The man managed to work for four years at the school before his secret was revealed and he is now charged with crimes against more than 100 girls.

New legislative proposals

Lotta Edholm says that the government wants to increase the number of crimes for which employers must request register extracts.

– We are also working on a legislative proposal to be able to request register extracts while an employment is in progress, i.e. not only during the employment itself, she says.

– I now have to think about whether there are further measures we can actually take. Because we can’t have it like this, says Lotta Edholm.
