Ebba Årsjö completely broken despite the historic victory – opens up about great injustice: “Hard to accept”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Ebba Årsjö won a downhill race for the first time ever.
But after the historic victory, the 22-year-old is still completely broken.
– It’s hard to accept actually, she tells Radiosporten.

Last year was absolutely incomparable too Ebba Årsjö who won double gold in the WC and also double gold in the Paralympics. WC 2023 then got even better when the blue-yellow hero completely dominated and took home four WC gold medals in para sports.

Årsjö’s success

After that, the success has continued and the 22-year-old has lined up World Cup victories and won most of what she has competed in. On Sunday, Årsjö also took a historic victory when she won her very first downhill race in the World Cup.

The Swede has actively chosen not to compete in downhill because it will be far too stressful for her injured leg. But now she has been forced to do so in order to win the overall World Cup this year.
– Well, but I basically had no choice. Just with how it looks in the overall World Cup standings, it looks pretty dark to me. Then I get to do everything I can and drive what I don’t want to, she admits to Radiosporten.
– I have managed to get down in everything that I set up and raced in. I have found a stability and won. But in January we didn’t have enough to go on a whole trip and then I lost a lot on that. It’s tough, it’s very tough.

Ebba dissatisfied

The golden hero chases the German Anna-Maria Rieder in the overall World Cup and is behind due to financial conditions, as Ebba cannot go to as many World Cup races as her competitor. So even though she has lined up victories this year, Årsjö is still completely broken by the great injustice.
– It’s hard to accept, actually. It looks better every year for us, but we have a long way to go, so it’s tough, she says in the interview.

Ebba Årsjö will now give her all to win the overall world cup in the alpine branches of the para sport. But the 22-year-old also needs a lot of luck to make it a reality.
– I try to be positive and anything can happen in four competitions. She can screw it up and that’s my only hope. But here we are now in a panic and I’m lining up in a steeplechase to perhaps even things out a bit. I have done everything and I should be proud of that, she says to the radio channel.
