Ebba Andersson now breaks the silence about why things went so badly during the winter – admits herself: “It has been challenging”

Ebba Andersson had a brilliant season last year.
But this year’s ski season has not been as good at all.
Now the 25-year-old opens up and explains why.

Last season was Ebba Andersson’s career best. She won five individual World Cup races and crowned it all by becoming the WC queen in Planica.

Andersson’s success

The Swede won double WC gold and double WC bronze during the skiing WC and was widely praised as Therese Johaugs heir to the ski slopes. The current season also started very well with two World Cup wins and a total of four podiums before Christmas.

But then something happened that ruined the rest of Andersson’s winter. She came to the Tour de Ski with high hopes but was forced to cancel early due to lingering covid illness.

Ebba’s tough time

Since then, the 25-year-old has been unrecognizable on the tracks and the top positions have completely disappeared. Ebba got to celebrate big in January when she was presented with the Jerring prize for her fantastic 2023.

But even that euphoria could not make the form point upwards again. Now she opens up about what has gone wrong and why 2024 has been a huge disappointment so far.
– Just this year, I really got to see the challenges with the consequences of a small virus, she tells P4 Västernorrland.
– What has been challenging for me in the last two months is that I have felt that my body did not have the same stamina as before. It has also not responded as well when I wanted to press.

Therefore, it has been a difficult time for Ebba Andersson during the beginning of the year. And she really struggles to find her old self as a skier.
– The head has wanted one thing and the body has responded with something else. Precisely this that I have experienced that I reached my maximum load ceiling much earlier than I did before Christmas. But at the same time, I have really tried to maintain an optimism, she admits in the interview.
