Earthquake in Afghanistan: “Felt the ground shake”

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.3, shook Herat province on Saturday. It was followed by several aftershocks.

– So far, over 1,000 injured women, children and senior citizens have been registered, and around 120 people have lost their lives, Herat province disaster manager Mosa Ashari told AFP.

People have fled their homes for fear of more tremors, among them Abd al-Shakor Samadi who lives in the city of Herat.

– Houses, offices and shops are empty. I was at home with the family when I felt the ground shake, he tells the AP news agency.
