Drug kingpin sentenced to prison in the US

Cocaine king Dario Antonio Usuga, also known as “Otoniel”, has been sentenced to 45 years in prison in a federal court in the United States.

The notorious 51-year-old, former leader of Colombia’s powerful Gulf Clan drug cartel, pleaded guilty in January of this year to drug trafficking.

The prosecutor described Usuga as the most violent and significant drug trafficker since Pablo Escobar” and accused him of smuggling 73 tons of cocaine into the United States between 2003 and 2012. He was arrested in 2021 in Colombia in a massive military operation.
