On Thursday afternoon, the police were alerted that a car in central Oslo had driven into the Oslofjord.

“Two people were in the car when it drove into the water, they were picked up by a sauna boat,” writes the Oslo police on X.

One of the sauna bathers out on the raft discovered the car that had driven over the edge. The captain of the fleet was immediately alerted to what had happened.

– Then I steered at full throttle towards the people who came climbing out of the car, says Nicholay Nordahl, who drove the fleet.

The raft arrived just before the car completely sank, and those passengers were able to get over to the raft. Once on the raft they could warm up in the sauna.

“Saved our lives”

The driver, who thought the car was in park, had started to accelerate and the car drove away.

– Then it drove into the water. It was a very unpleasant feeling, he says.

Both the driver and the passenger escaped unhurt, but were taken to hospital for a check-up. He says they are grateful that the sauna raft came to the rescue.

– They saved our lives, says the driver.
