Driver, 86, airlifted after double crash in Tilbury: Chatham-Kent police

An elderly woman was flown to a London hospital after being involved in two crashes in Tilbury Tuesday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Emergency crews were called to Ella and Canal streets at 11:13 am after a turning SUV and a van collided, sending the van into a pole, police said.

The SUV continued east onto Tilbury Street, where it went off the road on a bend at Mill Street.

The SUV driver, a Romney Township woman, 86, was flown out by Ornge Air Ambulance, police said.

Tilbury is about 26 kilometers southwest of Chatham.

No injuries in Tilbury-area crash

A driver faces a careless driving charge after two vehicles collided outside Tilbury afternoon, Chatham-Kent police say.

Emergency crews were called to Queen’s Line, between Davidson Road and Bonneau Line, about 2 pm after a vehicle trying to pass collided with another vehicle stopped to make a left turn, police said. The impact drove the turning vehicle into and out of a ditch.

No one was hurt and both vehicles were towed, police said.

The passing vehicle’s driver was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act, police said.
