Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Should you save the mayor?

You make one of your first big decisions relatively early in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Together with your companions you should visit D’Meta’s crossing. You can read here what the consequences of your decision could be.

What decision is it about? The quest that sends you to D’Meta’s Crossing starts in Arlathan Forest. You will find the village completely overgrown with corruption. All residents are infected and a boss is waiting for you in the middle.

Once you have defeated him and spoken to the veil jumpers, you will find the mayor on the edge of the branch. He is trapped in corruption and speaks to you. Ultimately, you have a choice: do you save his life or leave him to die of corruption?

Save the mayor or not – these are the consequences

Leaving the Mayor in Depravity: If you let the mayor die, the approval of the companions Harding and Bellara will increase. Neve, on the other hand, disapproves of the decision.

Later in the game you will meet the mayor’s corpse again as an intermediate boss as part of the quest A Growing Corruption. He has been completely taken over by corruption and no longer knows who he is.

Save the Mayor: However, if you save the mayor, Neve will approve, while Harding and Bellara will speak out against it.

Nothing else happens: the mayor survives. Accordingly, he is not corrupted and does not act as an interim boss. The quest A Growing Corruption will not be unlocked for you.

So the decision basically just determines whether the mayor will be a problem for you again later. If you want to farm experience points, you would be well advised to unlock the fight and leave the mayor in ruins.

Otherwise it is purely a role-playing decision that unfortunately has no further impact on the game. If you are looking for more tips and tricks about Dragon Age: The Veilguard, we have exactly the right article for you here: Dragon Age: The Veilguard: 10 tips that I wish I had known beforehand
