Double losses for Sjöström: “Very happy to be second”

– It was an honor to be able to compete against this starting field, she says after 56.92 at the Athens World Cup competition, where she also came second in the 100 meter freestyle.

Sarah Sjöström started tentatively, was fourth after 50 meters but then picked places after the turn.

In the end, she finished second in 56.92, behind the Chinese Zang Yufei’s 56.06.

The 30-year-old was equally happy about it.

“Delighted to be second”

– Very happy. It was an honor to compete against this starting field of all strong swimmers. It was almost like an Olympic final. I am very happy to be second, she says in the broadcast on the international swimming association World Aquatics Youtube channel.

The Swede, who earlier during the weekend’s World Cup competitions in Athens won the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly, also made sure to take home another podium place on Sunday.

Sjöström was second in the 100 meter freestyle in 53.32. Siobhan Bernadette Haughey, Hong Kong, won in 52.55.

The podium for Sophie Hansson

Louise Hansson was fifth in the 100 meter butterfly in 57.86.

However, Sophie Hansson ensured the family got a podium finish from Greece, as she finished third in the 50m breaststroke in 30.68 seconds.

– It felt very good. I am happy to be under 31, says Hansson.

Ruta Meilutyte, Lithuania, won in 30.23. Siobhan Bernadette Haughey was second in 30.36.
