A large police operation is underway in western Stockholm after a powerful explosion occurred at a gate to a residential building in Grimsta during the night of Monday.
The police do not rule out that the explosion may have a connection with the murder of a 20-year-old man in Vällingby on New Year’s Eve.
– It is possible that it is so and it is one of the hypotheses we are looking at, but it is too early to comment on this now. But of course we will look into it, says Ola Österling, the Stockholm police’s spokesperson.
The alarm came in at 03:15 and when the emergency services arrived at the scene, something had exploded at the gate and several windows had broken in the property.
Just an hour later, at 04.28, another explosion occurred, this time in Bagarmossen.
– It is a significantly smaller explosion than the one in Grimsta, but this one happened inside the stairwell, says Ola Österling.
One person has been arrested for the explosion in Bagarmossen, in an ongoing police operation. No one has so far been reported injured in any of the explosions.
