The municipal council in Mora chose on Monday evening to stand behind a committee initiative from the Social Democrats. The decision means that a municipal referendum will be held in connection with the elections to the European Parliament, on 9 June 2024.
Collection of names for referendum
Critics of the school building in the Stranden area have since 1 December collected signatures for a referendum in connection with the EU elections. After barely a week, they had collected several hundred names, but those names do not need to be submitted to the municipality in order to get the vote.
Fast processing – further decision pending
The social democratic committee initiative must have been submitted to the municipality on Friday, processed by the municipal board on Monday afternoon and then reported to the agenda for the municipal council meeting on Monday evening.
After a debate on Monday evening, all parties in the municipal council stood behind the proposal. The issue of the referendum will be discussed again on February 12, when several decisions will be made, including how the referendum question will be worded.
