Disruption in train traffic after an explosion at a sugar mill

During the morning, an explosion occurred at a sugar mill in Örtofta in Eslöv. The police, emergency services and ambulance were all called to the scene – but no one was injured in connection with the explosion.

All employees were able to get out of the building.

The explosion was caused by a cooking pot and caused damage to the building. Cars parked nearby were also damaged.

After the explosion, train traffic was stopped due to debris on the railway track.

SJ advises against travel

At 06:00 the work was finished, but due to the explosion there are major disruptions in train traffic during the day. SJ has canceled several trains on the route between Malmö and Stockholm.

– We had a plan to order replacement traffic between Eslöv and Malmö, but it has turned out that it is difficult with replacement traffic today. All in all, we have concluded that we advise against traveling along the route today. There will be such big challenges connected to traffic, says SJ’s press communicator Jonas Olsson to TV4 Nyheterna.

– We have canceled five trains and it cannot be ruled out that there will be more during the day.

Some trains will be able to run between Stockholm and Hässleholm, but SJ urges travelers to stay updated with traffic information.
