Disneys Ariel remake gives the first real look at villain

The latest Disney remake The Little Mermaid arrives on May 25, 2023 in German cinemas. After the first short teaser, we had to wait an unusually long time for a real trailer. But just in time for the Oscars, the fantasy film now provides real insights into the world under the sea, lets the new music sound and unleashes the evil sea witch Ursula.

Disney’s Ariel trailer features Prince Eric, mer people and villain Ursula

Ariel is one of the most anticipated fantasy films of 2023. Based on the fairy tale The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, the adventure is another entry in the now long list of Disney Live Action Remakes, in which popular cartoon classics of the mouse brand are reissued. In the first long trailer, director Rob Marshall now throws us in the (cold) water:

Little Mermaid – Trailer (English) HD

Mermaid Ariel (Halle Bailey) lives in the depths of the ocean. She longs for the world above the waves, which her father, King Triton (Javier Bardem), has forbidden. But the sea princess has a mind of her own and rescues Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) during a storm. In order to follow him to the country, she makes a deal with the Sea Witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy): In exchange for her beautiful voice, Ariel gets two legs instead of a fishtail. However, she has no idea that the tentacle-swinging villain has plans of her own.

After the last short teaser gave us only a blurry glimpse of Ariel’s sinister opponent with her two moray eels, the first long trailer now shows us Ursula in all her glory. There is also an animal in the Disney remake Reunion with the crab Sebastian, the fish Fabius and the seagull Scuttle. As in the original, Alan Menken is responsible for the music. He will be joined by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will also play a knife-wielding chef.
