According to the news in the US-based The New York Times, the US Coast Guard said in a statement early on Tuesday that a ship crashed into a bridge passing through the port of Baltimore. The accident, which occurred on the Francis Scott Key Bridge, was confirmed by Matthew West, a petty officer first class with the Coast Guard in Baltimore.

He did not specify the type of ship or when it hit the bridge.

While the extent of damage to the bridge, which is part of Interstate 695, is not immediately clear, neither Baltimore Police nor the Maryland Port Authority responded to requests for comment. Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott’s office also declined to comment on the incident.
